Brushes Leave Marks
There's a reason a car comes out of the same tunnel wash looking duller every year. Two things in that tunnel work against your paint, and neither of them is the soap.
Spinning brushes
Nylon bristles on a spinning drum don't know the difference between dirt and clear coat. They drag whatever grit the car ahead of you left behind straight across your paint.
Recycled water
Tunnel washes filter and reuse their water. Fine grit survives the filters, and it gets flung against your panels at speed, panel after panel.
What it leaves
Thousands of fine circular scratches — that's what swirl marks actually are. They scatter light instead of reflecting it, so the paint reads hazy and grey instead of deep and glossy.
Swirl marks can't be washed away — they're removed by machine polishing. Preventing them in the first place costs far less than correcting them later.
