What You're Looking At

What Swirl Marks Actually Are

Swirl marks are thousands of fine scratches in your clear coat, usually from automatic car washes and dry towels. In shade you might not see them. In direct Kansas sun they look like a spiderweb around every light source.

That spiderweb is why they're so easy to miss in a garage and so obvious in a parking lot. Each individual scratch is far thinner than a human hair — you never remove one, you reduce thousands of them at once until the light stops scattering off the edges.

Automatic car washes

The brushes hold grit from the last hundred cars and drag it straight across your paint.

Drying with the wrong towel

A dry wipe on dusty paint is sandpaper. Most swirls are added in the last two minutes of a wash.

Wiping off dust and bird droppings

Pressure on a dirty panel with a dry towel is the fastest way to scratch clear coat.

Once you know what you're looking for, you can't unsee it. Use the inspection light below the way we do — this is exactly how a vehicle gets assessed before we quote correction.

See What's Hiding In Your Paint

Swirl marks and holograms stay invisible until light catches them at the right angle. Same panel, same light — the only difference is what a machine polish actually removes.

Prep comes first

Decontamination, and correction when the paint needs it, before any coating.

5.0 on Google

Rated by 90+ customers.

Coating is applied after decontamination and, when the paint needs it, paint correction.

Correct the paint only, or add glass and wheels. Defect removal is measured under inspection lighting after the work is done. No stage removes 100%. Times are for a mid-size vehicle; larger vehicles and heavy oxidation run longer.

Straight Answers

What Correction Can't Fix

Polishing removes clear coat to level the surface. It cannot add material back. Those three words — remove, not add — explain every limit on this page.

Scratches you can catch with a fingernail

If your nail catches on it, the scratch has gone through the clear coat into the base coat or primer. Polishing can soften how it looks, but it can't put material back. A touch-up pen or a respray is the honest answer.

Clear coat failure

When the clear coat has worn through and the paint looks chalky, cloudy or patchy, there's nothing left to correct. That layer has to be replaced, not polished.

Rock chips

A chip is missing paint, not damaged paint. Correction won't fill it, and polishing over one can make the edge around it more visible.

We'd rather tell you this before you book than after. If your vehicle falls into one of these categories, we'll say so plainly and point you toward what will actually help.

Measured, not guessed

How We Keep Your Clear Coat Safe

Clear coat is a finite resource, and once it's gone it doesn't come back. The whole job is removing the least amount of it that gets your result.

Thin or repainted?

If a panel reads thin or has been repainted, we stop and talk to you before touching it.

Edges taped

Edges, seams and trim are taped off. They carry the thinnest paint and are the fastest place to do damage.

Least aggressive first

We start with the gentlest pad and polish that will do the job, and step up only if the paint tells us to.

Hand work on edges

Body lines and panel edges get hand work, never machine work.

If your goal would need more clear coat than your car has, we'll tell you that instead of chasing it.

Most Popular Pairing

Correction + Coating, Done Together

Correction and ceramic coating are the pairing most of our customers book, and it isn't a sales pitch — it's the order of operations. Correction removes the swirls. The coating is what keeps them from coming back, because the layer you're washing is the coating instead of your paint.

Coating a car without correcting it first locks every swirl mark under a hard, glossy layer. That's the worst of both worlds, since gloss makes defects more visible, not less. If your paint is already in good shape, a coating alone is fine — we'll tell you which situation you're in.

FAQ

Paint Correction Questions

Straight answers on cost, care and what a coating can and can't do.

Yes, when it's measured. Correction is a controlled abrasion process, so safety comes down to how much clear coat comes off and whether anyone is checking. We read paint depth before and after every stage, tape edges and trim, and use the least aggressive combination that gets your result. On a healthy factory finish, a two-step correction typically removes well under half a mil. What isn't safe is polishing by feel with no measurements, or repeating a heavy cut every year.
